Vortioxetine is used for treatment of depression (feeling sad, restless, irritable, a change in appetite or weight, difficulty concentrating or sleeping, feeling tired, headaches, unexplained aches and pains) in adults. Vortioxetine belongs to a group of medicines called antidepressants. Depression is thought to be caused by an imbalance of certain chemicals that occur naturally in the brain. Vortioxetine works to correct the imbalance in one of these chemicals (serotonin). This may help ease emotional and physical symptoms of depression. Trintellix is not for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Vortioxetine Guidelines

Do not take Trintellix if you are allergic to Vortioxetine or if you are already taking medicines known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs); talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of Vortioxetine before you begin to take it: if you have ever had any allergic reaction to medications, food, etc, about all your medical conditions, including a history of seizures, liver disease, kidney disease, heart problems; if you have glaucoma or increased pressure in your eyes; if you have a history or family history of mania or bipolar disorder; if you are pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding; - if you have a tendency to develop bruises or have known bleeding tendencies, if you have a low sodium level in the blood; if you are taking anticoagulants and/or medicinal products known to affect platelet function, if you had a recent bone fracture or you have osteoporosis, about your habits of alcohol and/or street drug consumption; if you drive a vehicle or perform hazardous tasks during your work. Avoid combining Trintellix with alcohol. This medication should not be taken by pregnant women or women who are breast-feeding. The following may counteract with Vortioxetine, so make sure to tell your doctor about any prescription and over-the-counter medications you are taking.

• Bupropion;
• Drugs that affect serotonin such as lithium, drugs containing tryptophan, St. John’s Wort;
• Medicines used to treat pain such as fentanyl;
• Medicines which affect blood clotting and increase bleeding such as oral anticoagulants;
• Medicines used to treat cough;
• Other antidepressants such as SSRIs or SNRIs;
• Rifampicin
