How Atorvastatin Works
Atorvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication that blocks the production of cholesterol (a type of fat) in the body. Atorvastatin reduces low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol in the blood when combined with exercise and a diet low in fat and cholesterol. By taking Lipitor or its generic counter-part you will lower your cholesterol which will in turn help to prevent heart disease and hardening of the arteries; it will also control conditions that can lead to heart attack, stroke, and vascular disease. This medication reduces the amount of LDL formed by limiting the amount of enzymes that create cholesterol. Lipitor and Generic Lipitor are also used to treat people with type 2 diabetes, and people with coronary heart disease.
Generic Lipitor vs Brand Lipitor
Generic Lipitor better known as Atorvastatin is chemically and therapeutically identical to the Brand Lipitor. The Lipitor generic alternative is the exact same in chemical composition, strength, and safety standards as the brand. Once inside of the body, generic Atorvastatin works identical to the brand, whether manufactured by Pfizer or a generic manufacturer both metabolize in the body the same way. Differences between Lipitor brand and generic Atorvastatin are primarily aesthetic; the generic because it is not manufactured by Pfizer, will look different in shape, colour or size compared to the brand. Currently we have the generic that comes from Uk and Canada, it may come from other countries around the world.
