How Famotidine Works
Famotidine belongs to a class of medicines known as histamine H2 receptor antagonists. It reduces the amount of acid produced by the stomach. For this reason, it is used in the treatment of certain ulcers of the stomach or duodenum, and to prevent intestinal ulcers from coming back after they have healed. This medication is also used to treat certain stomach and throat (esophagus) problems, for example erosive esophagitis; the treatment of irritation and inflammation caused by stomach acid leaking up into the gullet and gastroesophageal reflux disease or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, in which the stomach produces too much acid. It relieves symptoms such as cough that doesn't go away, stomach pain, heartburn, and difficulty swallowing. This medicine is prescribed for the particular condition that you have. Do not give this medicine to other people, nor use it for any other condition.
