How Erleada Works
Erleada (Apalutamide) is an anti-androgen used to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic) and is also being treated with another medication or with surgery. This medication is also used to treat prostate cancer that has no spread to other parts of the body, after surgery or other cancer treatments did not work or have stopped working. Erleada is used together with a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) or with surgical castration. Erleada works by blocking the effects of androgens, a type of hormone, on the tumour. These androgens, such as testosterone, attach to receptors in the prostate cancer cells and cause the cancer cells to grow and spread. By blocking the effects of these hormones, Erleada can help to stop the growth of the cancer.
