Dexlansoprazole is the active ingredient in Dexilant, and is a medication used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including heart burn and esophageal ulcers. Dexlansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. It works by blocking the action of pumps in your stomach that produce acid. By decreasing the amount of acid produced by the stomach, Dexlansoprazole can reduce many symptoms of GERD. Dexlansoprazole is also a dual delayed release pill that combines two different types of granules in one pill.
