How 5-aminosalicylic acid Works
5-aminosalicylic acid, or mesalamine, is known to act as an anti-inflammatory. It is used to treat mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. 5-aminosalicylic acid aka 5-ASA reduces inflammation in the bowel. There are several variations of this drug, but you must take it exactly as your doctor prescribed.
