How Ramipril Works
Ramipril is classified as an ACE inhibitor which is short for Angiotensin, Converting Enzyme; it is primarily used to treat those with high blood pressure and heart failure. It is also used to prevent kidney failure due to high blood pressure and diabetes. If high blood pressure goes untreated for a long period of time it can lead to serious consequences such as heart attacks, strokes and eventually death. Ramipril can also be prescribed after a heart attack to reduce the chance of another attack. This medication is usually prescribed to individuals over the age of 55. Ramipril works by relaxing the blood vessels thus making the heart pump efficiently. The dosage and frequency will differ for everyone and will depend on the severity of each case; the dosages range from 2.5mg to 20mg once daily or twice daily. Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Generic Altace vs Brand Altace
It is entirely your choice whether to take a generic or brand as long as you have discussed it with your doctor. Sanofi-Aventis is one of 4 pharmaceutical companies that produce brand Ramipril; it is marketed as Altace, Prilace, Ramipro and Tritace around the world. It is known as Altace in North America only; keep in mind that Blue sky drugs is a global pharmacy and your order of Altace may have an alternate name depending on it’s country of origin. Generic Altace or Ramipril is manufactured outside of a Sanofi-Aventis facility; this is the biggest difference between Altace and Ramipril. Generic Ramipril and Altace are identical in dose, strength, safety, efficacy, chemical makeup and therapeutic use. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.
